ILLUSTRATION 2 (PART 2) TASK 2: ILLUSTRATING THE NEWS.


Task  2
We have become so used the photographic image as a tool for supporting news items in newspaper, it is no longer questioned. However it is often argued that the cropping and placement of photographs can influence the readers perception and in effect the photograph "lies". This opens a space for illustrators to perhaps reclaim the medium, for hand produced illustrations. Take a daily newspaper, and produce a series of illustrations, 8 in total, that are based on news item in the paper. Read the news item create an illustration depicting the story. 

For this task student should understanding the relationship between narrative and factual information in image making is explored by way of contrast to orthodoxy of photography in printed media, student use narrative lino cut/ painted image to create a less fragmented version of the news. 

The began i going to find some newspaper and then take some part is the best interesting story after that cut it out to create illustrate the news story.   Besides that,  i will write down the main point in the A4 paper. To make sure understand the news story. After finish to reading the news story and then sketch out the idea what the children thinks about. 



 

WHAT CHILDREN THINK

 GroupM’S PLAY 2012 uncovers fresh insights. 

Introduction

ASK any child about his ambition, and the likely response would usually be doctor, lawyer, or pilot. Today, media exposure has impacted the millennial child, who no longer aspire the conventional, professions, but wishes to be exactly like their current idols – footballer, traveler, dancer or chef.

Is superman still relevant as a hero character? Or do they relate better to SpongeBob Square pants? What TV Channels do they turn to and what are their favourite websites? Secretly, what do they wish to do or where do they hope to go on their next holiday? What would they like to have for their birthday?

Such findings, on what goes on in their tiny, little minds are now uncovered in PLAY a combination of both quantitative and qualitative study by GroupM to tap on the psyche of millennial kids aged from 6 to 12 which aims at providing an insight to the minds and behavioral patterns.

The study covers a base of 250 kids across II key location in Klang Valley it has an equal sample size of boys and girls; including racial distribution aligned with the national population. It opted to capture more kids from middle to high-end income households based on their aptitude and exposure and exposure towards technology, urban-centric lifestyle and well-known brands.

The study covers their likes or dislikes across various categories, brand preferences, media and gadget consumption, activities, their opinions as well as aspirations. The quantitative survey is done via Central Location Test (CLT) or a face-to-face interview of over 20 questions, which proves to be a challenging feature due to kids’ short attention span.

Ng Tze Lian, managing partner under GroupM insights revealed: “we try to keep all questions as simple as possible to get spontaneous answers from the kids. We adopt a very child-friendly tone and manner, with aided picture. Previously, marketers tend to assume or second-guess what kids think. But with PLAY, it’s confirmed data!”

The study reveals the children today have greater purchasing power. More than half of the children surveyed go online on a frequent basis; with their top activities include social networking, playing online games and searching for information.

These children are also found to have developed stronger brand preference towards lifestyle and technology product such Dell, Nike, Blackberry and Swatch. Latest tech gadget such as Smartphone and handheld gaming devices are now becoming hot on their birthday wish lists apart from the usual toys. The qualitative study was based on a self-completion diary over two weeks during the school holiday in December 2011. Over a dozen kids from middle to high-end income households in Klang Valley took great care and pride in filling-up their diaries, thus providing physical proof or hard facts to ascertain and support overall findings.

GroupM first conducted PLAY in 2006 and 2008 however in a much smaller scale using only a qualitative methodology of self-completion diary.

GroupM aims to take PLAY to the next level, reaching out to these young yet significant consumers by covering more market centers within Malaysia in the near future.

THE FINAL NEWS PROJECT







This is what i complete it the final news illustration. The news story is about what children think? My idea is want to let everyone know what the children think about, so i draw out the two children because one is girl one is boy, make it easy to understanding, actually children should have one boy one girl and also should group together,  and their thinking also wont be same, then i draw out the two children hair is big for them, because her and his hair  are connect with their brain and what the children think in brain. Besides that, i just follow the news story draw out what the children thinking in their life. The color looks like more soft or smooth. I put this few color, because smooth color for children is the best think and also what the children like the color, soft color mean children thinking is not stress in their life, there are only children, not need think about so much. There just enjoy their life.
